Horses to me are both physical beings in their power, beauty and grace and spiritual beings representing the elements of Air, Fire and Light, freedom from everything material and a connection to the World Beyond.

I am a recently retired plastic surgeon and an artist. I have been been doing artwork since the age of three being guided and taught by my father Rolf Stegars, the renowned chief scenic designer of the Finnish National Theater in Helsinki, Finland.

My main motifs are horses to whom I feel a deep connection, love and respect. I wish to portray my equines as free beings totally unrestricted by humans such as wearing any tack - grace is the beauty of form under the influence of freedom (Friedrich Schiller).

My art work contains both naturalistic portraits and a wide variety of paintings done in different techniques, styles and media.

Enjoying the possibilities of the digital world I often enhance my art by digital means. This endows the possibility to create a variety of pictures in different colors and textures based on one main painting or drawing.

I have recently started to make portraits of people, especially children with their equine friends, dogs or cats.

Whatever I earn with my art will wholly be donated to horse (World Horse Welfare) or other worthy animal welfare projects.
